Black British Entertainment is proud to introduce Mariah Idrissi as one of our Ambassadors for BBE Awards 2017. A young woman who chose not to have her freedom of religion limit her passion and talent, she became the first ever Muslim Hijab wearing model when she appeared in multinational retailer, H&M’S Close And Loop Champaign.
Mariah has appeared in both print and video ads for the Swedish fashion brand’s campaign, as a result, both Mariah and H&M made headline news receiving domestic coverage across major British media outlets and in high fashion magazines Elle, Marie Claire and Teen Vogue. International news broadcasters including CNN, ANC AU, Huffington Post and Al Jazeera covered the viral campaign.
Katie Rogers of New York Times wrote: “the story of Mariah Idrissi, a hijab-wearing model, has prompted a discussion about women who are reclaiming the head scarf as a form of stylish self-expression. Aaron Morrison of The International Business Times reported, “There’s a considerable amount of buzz in the fashion world about Mariah Idrissi”.
Mariah is also an active humanitarian, she advocates for Syrian Women, endorsing Human Care Syria’s ‘Women’s Hygiene and Sanitation’ project. In 2016, Mariah spoke at London’s TEDx Teen conference held at the IndigoO2 at The O2 Arena.
Here at BBE we simply describe Idrissi as a face of modern modesty who oozes class, charm, and sophistication. Idrissi makes every woman want to add a head scarf to her must have fashion accessories. Her pictures are beyond breathtaking, reminding women who love to stay modest that they can still look as fashionable, if not more, whilst covered up. Mariah is a force to reckon with in the fashion industry.
So we are very proud to have the modest beauty be one of our BBE Awards Ambassadors.
She is a true representation of what Black British Entertainment is about. Follow Mariah on her Instagram @mariahidrissi
